The Conquest of Cancer Through Research
December 2020 eNews
2020 and Looking Forward 2020 started out normally. January and February were busy with cancer research and students, the way it's been done for 39 years. March came, and, like everyone else, we puzzled with how to go forward. April and May became brain-storming months. But who better to solve the problems that arose than a team of research scientists? June, July, and August proved UREP still works. With ten bright students, four dedicated faculty, guest speakers, even an international virtual conference--UREP was different but unique and successful. September saw reopening, social distance and masks. We dealt with remote scientists and board meetings online, and moved several projects forward. October, November, and here we are at December. Back to projects, back to research, and planning for an uncertain future. What we know is we can handle an uncertain future. 2020 was a learning year. What we didn't know before now points us in a more efficient direction. Exciting news for 2021 is that three UREP students will be joining us next semester for a combination virtual/lab experience. Students will chemically treat tissues in the lab, then observe the tissues online with Dr. Larry Douglass who is in Nashville, and whose microscope is fit for online sharing. As we start out slow, keeping health and safety at the forefront, we look forward to many more successful students benefiting from UREP.

We hope you feel that you are a part of this work of cancer research and making the world a better place. So far we have received $2,030 in online donations, and $3,956 in mail-in donations. This totals $5,986, exceeding our $5,000 goal and match! Our generous matching donor has agreed to match the nearly $1,000 of donations over our goal! We express our deep gratitude to this anonymous donor. Thanks to all of you who have made a contribution! We are humbled by your generosity. With continuing gratitude, we are excited to announce that another match has been pledged by one of the members of the Wood Hudson Board of Trustees! If you haven't taken the opportunity yet, it's not too late to donate! To be part of the exciting work of cancer research at Wood Hudson Cancer Research Laboratory, donate here.
